About
Efficient water use is becoming increasingly important in potato production due to more frequent drought periods, rising irrigation costs, and decreasing water abstraction permits. Soil moisture sensors can support a more efficient allocation of the remaining irrigation volumes and help ensure that crops receive sufficient water throughout the growing season. The presentation will demonstrate how sensor-based irrigation strategies can improve the targeted use of water, reduce crop stress, and increase overall resource efficiency. In addition, experiences from practical implementation on agricultural farms as well as approaches for integrating a water footprint into certificate trading will be discussed.
