Smart Farming – How is digitalization impacting farming and agricultural education?
Digitalization is gaining increasing importance in modern agriculture. In order to prepare future farm managers to make well-founded decisions based on large amounts of data from machinery, sensors, satellites, and drones, students at agricultural colleges increasingly need to acquire interdisciplinary competencies.
However, most curricula do not yet adequately reflect these competencies. Instead of being treated as a core component of advanced agricultural training, digital skills are often addressed only as supplementary content, depending on the individual qualifications of teaching staff. This gap has significant implications for the quality of professional development and the digital transformation capabilities of farms.
