As part of the BMLEH-funded project “SynCoIn,” the partners Biocare, IfZ, the University of Göttingen, Südzucker, and Pfeifer & Langen are developing practical and integrated control strategies and methods for managing Pentastiridius leporinus as a vector of SBR, within closely interconnected project areas. The aim is to sustainably secure sugar beet cultivation in affected regions.
The presentation introduces the field trials conducted within the SynCoIn project to reduce nymph populations of Pentastiridius leporinus. The focus is on control approaches involving soil cultivation, crop rotation, cover crops, and the application of entomopathogenic fungi using different techniques and timings of application. These approaches were previously explored in preparatory SynCoIn subprojects. In multi-year field trials, the effects of individual and combined measures on Pentastiridius leporinus populations are being investigated. Monitoring of Pentastiridius leporinus emergence is carried out using capture tents with sticky traps and is supported by an automated image analysis system developed within the project.
