Achieve more with intelligent plant communities in the cultivation system

Crop rotation design, in all its facets, is a highly effective tool for generating economic benefits while acting sustainably at the same time. Depending on the type of farm, site and soil conditions, machinery equipment, marketing opportunities, and crop price levels, different requirements arise for crop production. Through the intelligent design of crop rotations using different species, varieties, and mixtures and their combinations, you have numerous levers at your disposal for efficient and resilient cultivation. In this Pop-up Talk, we will describe how this can work in practice and the advantages it can offer you. We have prepared a biodiverse crop rotation with winter oilseed rape, winter barley, winter wheat, maize, and White lupin, supported by crop-specific companion and undersowing crops and supplemented with cover crops. The focus of the discussion in the field plots is to examine the potential of each crop in the rotation and, ultimately, of the entire system. The advantages of this crop rotation range from potential savings in operating resources thanks to healthy, innovative varieties to improved soil fertility through cover crops and undersowing crops. Aspects such as nitrogen transfer, the influence of microbiome and water storage capacity play an important role here.
