Prof. Dr. Stefan Stiene holds a doctorate in computer science from the University of Osnabrück. He completed his Master of Science and Computer Science at the same institution in 2006. After completing his doctorate in 2009, he worked for ROSEN Technology and Research Center GmbH on the development of intelligent inspection systems for gas and oil pipelines. He has been working at DFKI since 2011: 2011 to 2021 as Senior Researcher and Team Leader of the Planning and Perception Group; since then as Affiliated Professor. His research focuses on navigation of autonomous mobile robots, 3D data processing and artificial intelligence. Since 2016 he is head of the DFKI Competence Center Smart Agriculture Technologies. In 2020, he was appointed coordinator for the field of agriculture in the German GAIA-X Hub and heads the BMWK lighthouse project Agri-Gaia. He has been a professor at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences since 2021. In addition to his research activities, he has worked as an expert for various national funding programs. In 2022, he was appointed by the state of Brandenburg as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB). In the same year, he was appointed to the Digitalization Working Group by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture. In 2023, he became coordinator of the German node in the European agrifoodTEF project. In 2024, he founded the startup simmetry.ai and was appointed to the scientific advisory board of CC-ISOBUS.
